BANKSIA HILL DETENTION CENTRE — EDUCATION SERVICES

387. Hon ALISON XAMON to the Minister for Education and Training:

(1)  Why does the Department of Education not directly provide education services to children and young people at Banksia Hill Detention Centre?

(2)  Will the government consider transitioning the provision of education to the department?

(3)  If yes to (2), when?

(4)  If no to (2), why not?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question.

(1)  The provision of education services to children and young people at Banksia Hill Detention Centre is provided by the Department of Justice.

(2)  The current arrangement relating to the provision of education services to children and young people at Banksia Hill Detention Centre is not under review.

(3)  Not applicable.

(4)  This matter would be a whole-of-government decision and would be led by the Minister for Corrective Services.
