465. Hon ALISON XAMON to the Minister for Environment:

I refer to note 1 on page 821 of the Budget Statements which states —

The cost per hectare is increasing due to expenditure being incurred on areas proposed for reservation and management as conservation estates but not yet formally reserved.

(1) How many Bush Forever sites are in this situation?

(2) Which sites are they?

Hon DONNA FARAGHER replied:

I thank the member for some notice of this question.

(1) The note in the budget papers refers to areas that are not within the regional park system or the formal conservation reserve system under the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984. Currently, the Swan region of the Department of Environment and Conservation formally manages part or all of five Bush Forever sites that are proposed conservation reserves but are not yet formally created as conservation reserves or managed as regional parks. DEC is currently negotiating with the Western Australian Planning Commission to take over management of other areas purchased by the WAPC. There will be a period of time during which DEC will manage each of these lands until they are formally created as conservation reserves.

(2) The relevant sites are Bush Forever site 493, Errina Road bushland, Alexander Heights; Bush Forever site 387, Greater Brixton Street Wetlands, Kenwick; Bush Forever site 390, Fraser Road bushland, Banjup; Bush Forever site 383, additions to Neerabup National Park, Neerabup; and Bush Forever site 345, additions to Forrestdale Lake Nature Reserve.
