People with incontinence told to go on waiting list as program runs out of cash, say Greens

Potentially hundreds of people are having their quality of life destroyed by the State Government’s failure to adequately fund a support scheme for people with incontinence.

“Incontinence is not something people like to talk about but is it a common problem and for people who live with this every day, it can ruin their quality of life,” Greens spokesperson for Disability Alison Xamon said.

“The necessary incontinence products can cost up to $40 or more per week, which is quite clearly an impossible expense for people on low or fixed incomes to afford.

Greens call for action on no-fault insurance scheme as stepping stone to NDIS

WA has already missed out on the early rollout of launch sites for the NDIS because of inaction by the Barnett Government including its failure to set up a no-fault insurance scheme.


Greens Senator Rachel Siewert said people living with a disability in WA would be denied access to the benefits of the NDIS because the State Government had been tardy in committing and preparing for this reform.

Foetal alcohol court case a reminder of urgent need for Declared Places: WA Greens

A recent Goldfields court case where a female drink driver was found unfit to stand trial reinforces the urgent need for Declared Places in WA, says WA Greens Spokesperson for Disabilities Alison Xamon.

“A psychiatric report presented to the court said the woman suffered from disabilities related to foetal alcohol syndrome,” Ms Xamon said.

“All charges against her were dismissed, yet she has been retained in custody.

“This case goes to the heart of the need for Declared Places in WA.

Offenders with cognitive impairments failed by State Government

WA Greens spokesperson for Disability Alison Xamon has said she is outraged at the dismissive attitude of the Barnett/Grylls Government to the needs of people with cognitive impairments who come into contact with the justice system.


“The Greens are passionate about ensuring that our justice system is equipped to support all people and, in particular, our most vulnerable citizens,” Ms Xamon said.


“People with cognitive impairments are incredibly vulnerable and face unique challenges in navigating the WA justice system.
