CORRECTIVE SERVICES — TRANSITION SUPPORT — NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME

1322. Hon Alison Xamon to the minister representing the Minister for Corrective Services:

I refer to my question on notice No. 1060 of 20 March 2018, and I ask, what is the process for identifying prisoners who may be eligible for support under the National Disability Insurance Scheme?

Hon Stephen Dawson replied:

The Department of Justice advises:

To be eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), prisoners must meet the access requirements including location, age, residency, disability and functionality.

Preparation is taking place within Corrective Services to establish a centralised working relationship with the National Disability Insurance Agency to identify NDIS participants, refine referral pathways, consider information exchange, clarify support and funding arrangements for those in custody, and to facilitate promotion and education in regards to the NDIS within the justice system.

It is anticipated that these issues will be progressively clarified as the NDIS rolls out across Western Australia by 2020.
