We value the diversity in abilities among individuals and the diversity of contributions that people with disabilities make to our society.  We are committed to the inclusion, equal status, and recognition of people with disabilities as valued and participating members of our society.

Australia is at a critical point in how services are provided to people with disabilities.  The federal government is currently undertaking its largest review and, potentially, reform of the disability sector since the 1970s.  Lynn recently attended a forum held by the Disabilities Services Commission at which Bruce Bonyhady outlined plans for a National Disability Insurance Scheme.    The NDIS is currently the subject of a Productivity Commission inquiry.  The Greens fully support the principle behind the NDIS and we encourage interested parties follow this link to have their say.

Here in WA,  the Greens are guided by the following goals:

• Transferring the power from government and service providers to those with disabilities themselves to determine their best interests;
• Ensuring adequate physical access throughout the community, including to cultural, sporting and recreational activities;
• Eliminating inappropriate accommodation in institutions; and
• Recognising, supporting and safeguarding the role of carers by advocating for appropriate financial support and respite services
