Mirrabooka Groundwater
121. Hon ALISON XAMON to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Water:
I refer to the contaminated groundwater in Mirrabooka.
(1) How many licensed and unlicensed groundwater extraction bores are located within a one-kilometre radius of the Atlas waste landfill site on Alexander Drive?
(2) How many licensed and unlicensed groundwater extraction bores are located within a two-kilometre distance in the groundwater down gradient from the Atlas waste landfill site?
(3) What volume of water is extracted by licensed and unlicensed groundwater bores in these two discrete areas?
(4) What is the rate of movement of groundwater through soil types found in the vicinity of the Atlas waste landfill site?
Hon HELEN MORTON replied:
I thank the member for the question.
The Department of Water has advised me that it does not have records of extraction for unlicensed domestic bores, as bore owners have no requirement to notify the department of their construction. The Department of Water and the Department of Health advise people that they should not drink untreated bore water.
(1) Eighteen.
(2) Twenty-six.
(3) The volume of water licensed within a one-kilometre radius is 164 595 kilolitres per annum. The volume of water licensed within a two-kilometre down gradient is 305 625 kilolitres per annum.
(4) Around two metres a day.
