The future of the Gnangara Mound
The Gnangara Sustainability Strategy (GSS) has arisen from persistent and endemic management confusion. Too many agencies with vested interests unable to coordinate and plan continued sustainability for the area. The multiple goals, competing demands for water, land, timber, food production and primary resources have resulted in the area overlying the Gnangara groundwater mound to be the site of intractable problems with no mechanism to transform from policies of extraction and pollution to policies of sustainability. The phenomenon of ‘silo-ing’ – dividing management responsibility without reference to other agencies - must cease.
