HON ALISON XAMON (East Metropolitan) [2.07 pm]: I present a petition containing four signatures, which is couched in the following terms —

To the President and Members of the Legislative Council of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled.

We, the undersigned say that the Water Corporation’s current proposal to locate the Water Treatment Plant on the site of the historic Mundaring Weir Forestry Settlement (also known as the DEC site) must be reviewed.

This review should take into account the eleven selection criteria agreed between the Water Corporation and the community. The proposed location does not fit these criteria.

There is an alternative site at Firewood Road, 1.5 km north of the proposed site, which is significantly better and does meet these criteria.

We the undersigned residents of Western Australia are opposed to the project proceeding without adequate review of the site placement.

Your petitioners therefore respectfully request the Legislative Council to recommend the Water Corporation’s current proposal to locate the Water Treatment Plant on the site of the historic Mundaring Weir Forestry Settlement (also known as the DEC site) be reviewed.

And your petitioners as in duty bound, will ever pray.
