4261. Hon Alison Xamon to the Minister for Mental Health representing the Minister for Water

I refer to reported plans to use a northern section of the Yarragadee Aquifer as a supply source for the Integrated Water Supply System (IWSS) and ask —

(1) Has the Government discussed this option with any private developers?

(2) If yes to (1), how many separate proponents and what are their names?

(3) Please name the groundwater allocation areas in the northern section of the aquifer that the Government is considering could be used to augment water supply into the IWSS.

(4) When does the Government expect to complete its Gingin Groundwater Area allocation plan?

(5) Is the Minister aware that, according to a recent Department of Water presentation available on the Department’s website, groundwater levels in the Yarragadee Aquifer within the Gingin Groundwater Area fell by up to four metres between 2002 and 2007 and that projected further declines in rainfall in the Groundwater Area are expected to reduce the rate of recharge of aquifers in the area?

Hon HELEN MORTON replied:

The Minister for Water provides the following response:
