CHILD PROTECTION — OUT-OF-HOME CARE

3059. Hon Alison Xamon to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Child Protection:

(1)  How many children are currently in, out of home care?

(2)  How many Aboriginal children are in, out of home care?

(3)  How many children from (1) have been assessed at each Needs Assessment Tool (NAT) level?

(4)  How many children from (2) have been assessed at each NAT level?

Hon Sue Ellery replied:

(1)  As at 31 July 2020, there were 5,441 children in care.

(2)  As at 31 July 2020, there were 3,058 Aboriginal children in care.

(3)  The number of children in care who have been assessed at the Needs Assessment Tool levels is as follows:

2,287 at level 1

1,216 at level 2

1,092 at level 3

514 at level 4

190 at level 5

A further 142 children are undergoing their first assessment.

(4)  The number of Aboriginal children in care who have been assessed at the Needs Assessment Tool levels is as follows:

1,328 at level 1

661 at level 2

595 at level 3

292 at level 4

118 at level 5

A further 64 Aboriginal children are undergoing their first assessment.
