Monday, February 19, 2018

Greens spokesperson for Mental Health Hon Alison Xamon MLC has said the Code of Practice for the mental health of FIFO workers does not go far enough to assist in the prevention of adverse mental health and high suicide rates amongst FIFO workers.

Ms Xamon said while she was pleased the Code was finally out for public comment – nearly three years after the Parliamentary Inquiry which recommended it – it does not go far enough to meaningfully address the challenges originally raised in the Committee report.

“The Report graphically shows the steady reductions in State Funding for training that have occurred over the last few years.

Greens renew call to make cash-for-access unlawful

Tuesday, January 30, 2018

The Greens have today renewed their call for the McGowan Government’s Leaders’ Forum to be made unlawful following revelations that a Chinese property developer has joined the Forum.

Greens spokesperson for Integrity of Government, Hon Alison Xamon MLC, said that the Government’s lack of integrity was clearly evident in the fact that a private meeting with the Premier and Cabinet members could be bought by Leaders’ Forum members for $25,000, or a table at a dinner hosted by Government Minsters for $4,000; money which goes directly to ALP coffers.

Productivity Commission releases more damning findings

Thursday, January 25, 2018

The Productivity Commission’s Report on Government Services, released last night, has revealed WA has the country’s second highest imprisonment rate after NT, and the highest imprisonment rate of Aboriginals.

Ms Xamon labelled the statistics “shameful”.

“Instead of locking more Aboriginal people up, at exorbitant cost to the community, the Minister should be focussing on ways to keep people out of prison and to rehabilitate those who come before the justice system,” said Ms Xamon.
