LIVING PROUD — LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSSEXUAL, INTERSEX COMMUNITY SUPPORT

225. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the Minister for Mental Health:

I refer to the award-winning organisation Living Proud, which has been providing support, information and resources to the Western Australian lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, intersex community for almost 40 years.

(1) Is the minister aware that state government funding of Living Proud is due to end on 30 June 2017, placing the organisation’s viability in jeopardy?

(2) Will the government commit to entering into an interim funding arrangement with Living Proud to allow continuity of service between 30 June and when the Mental Health Commission’s next round of suicide prevention grant funding becomes available?

(3) If no to (2), why not?

(4) Does the minister acknowledge that the Department of Health’s changed strategic funding direction, coupled with the Mental Health Commission’s limited funding functions, has left Living Proud caught between silos, and no longer able to access the stability offered by three-year grant funding?

(5) If no to (4), why not?

(6) If yes to (4), what does the government intend to do to fill this gap in funding?

Hon ALANNA CLOHESY replied:

I know there is an answer to this question, because I have read it thoroughly and signed it. However, it is not in my folder, so I will attempt to have it in by the end of question time today.
