Problem gambling

Alison and the Greens believe that while Western Australians are entitled to choose to gamble, gambling is a serious health issue for some. All Western Australians are entitled to protection from harm which results from gambling addiction. Problem gambling can cause relationship breakdown, family and domestic violence, mental health issues, suicide, social isolation, business failure and an increase in crime rates.

Governments have a responsibility to ensure that adequate and effective harm-minimisation measures are funded, implemented and monitored to reduce problem gambling.

Alison will continue to advocate for maintaining current restrictions on poker machines in Western Australia and to ensure there are adequate services to support people experiencing a gambling addiction.
